Stripe Terminal lets you take card payments in person using a reader that connects to Stripe and settles the payment straight against a splose invoice. Clients tap their card on the reader, and the invoice updates to paid automatically.
This guide covers what you need before you start, how to set up your card reader, and how to take a payment from an invoice.
Before You Begin
Create a Stripe account.
Order a card reader from the Stripe Dashboard. Choose the BBPOS WISEPOS E device.
Set up your card reader
The steps below outline how to register your reader in Stripe once it arrives.
In Stripe, under More, click Terminal.
Under Locations, click New.
Create your location, then click Save.
Under Readers, click New.
On the reader, swipe from the left to open settings and enter the admin code 07139.
On the reader, tap Generate pairing code — it produces three random words (for example, "apple-grape-orange").
Back in Stripe, enter that code to register the reader, then click Save.
Once registered, the reader appears under Readers, which confirms setup is complete.
⚠️ Match your Stripe location to your splose location
The location name and details you create in Stripe Terminal must match a location set up in splose under Settings → Locations. If they don't match, the Terminal option won't appear when you take payment on an invoice for that location. Note that each Stripe reader links to a single Stripe location, so make sure the invoice you're paying is for the matching location.
💡 If you have any issues, follow the official Stripe reader setup documentation.
Accept a payment from an invoice
The steps below outline how to charge a client's card in person against an invoice.
Create an invoice and click Pay.
In the drop-down, under Stripe, click Terminal.
Select the amount payable.
Select the Terminal to use.
Click Send to terminal.
Things to Note
The supported reader is the BBPOS WISEPOS E.
Payments taken on the Terminal settle through Stripe and update the matching splose invoice automatically.
