Refunding or voiding a payment in splose updates your splose records only; it does not move money back to the client. To return a client's funds, you refund the payment in Stripe, then reconcile the records in splose.
This guide covers how to refund a Stripe payment and how to keep splose and Xero in sync afterwards.
Refund the payment in Stripe
Log in to your Stripe dashboard.
Find the charge to be refunded on the Transactions page.
Click the ••• icon to the right of the charge and select Refund payment. Alternatively, click on the charge and click the Refund button in the top right corner of the payment page.
The default refund is for the full amount. For a partial refund, enter a different amount to be refunded.
Select a reason for the refund. If you select Other, you must provide an explanatory note that is attached to the refund.
Click Refund.
Update your records in splose
Void the original payment in splose so the invoice reflects the refund.
Optionally, create a credit note in splose for financial accuracy and Xero syncing.
Things to Note
Refunding or voiding a payment in splose does not refund the client — it only updates splose's records.
Refunds processed in Stripe do not automatically update splose or Xero. Update both manually.
Troubleshooting and FAQs
I refunded a client outside splose (e.g. by bank transfer). How do I record it so the invoice isn't left overdue?

Don't delete the invoice. Record the refund with a credit note: go to Invoices, open the invoice, use the Pay drop-down, and choose Add Credit Note, then preview and create it. Once applied, the invoice shows as cleared rather than overdue.
Refunds taken through Stripe are handled differently. Once a credit note is applied, the invoice can't be edited unless you void it.
